OTHER BUNDABERG WHITE RUMS

For Further Information and Images, please see the Photo Gallery by clicking HERE

Date of Release: Late 1950’s

Alc/Volume:   Various     Bottle sizes: Various

Details: Bundaberg Rum produced a white rum in the 1950’s to try and capture the elusive White Rum market and appeal to the lady’s.  They also thought the White Rum would appeal to the fashionable cocktail market.

This white rum is standard Bundaberg Rum without the caramel colouring.  All rum when distilled is clear, it picks up some colour from the maturation process in the oak vats.  Unlike the Bundaberg Five these white rums were not filtered 5 times to remove

the colour.  They have a slight yellowish tinge. The bottling strength of these white rums was various but they were usually under proof.

Variations:  These white rums were bottled under different labels such as “White Lady” by Frangos Liqueurs, “Bundaberg White Rum” for different agents by ARD (Australian Rum Distillers Pty Ltd) Sydney and as “Galleon Bundaberg White Rum” by Australian Rum Distributors.

Bundaberg White Rum was the forerunner to the Millaquin White Rum, however Millaquin had completely different distillation and maturation processes.

Although it makes a good story that the “White Lady” brand was based on Lady Sonia McMahon and Sam did introduce Bill and Sonia at a Sydney nurses fund raiser at the Argyle (with a Bundy punch), Brett McMahon’s recollection is that the White Lady was developed before that time.*
